    Re: Who will win Virginia?

Obama is gaining ground everyday on Mccain and I will be highly surprised if he doesnt get Virginia. With him coming down here to our part twice and the different groups spreading the word (which I am proud to be apart of) he will get VA IMO. Now as 7teen pointed out its pretty hard for the Dems to get VA in the presidential election, but I still think he will squeak it out like you said.

    Re: Who will win Virginia?

Now leads in VA according to Fox.

Barack Obama has gained ground in five new state polls -- Colorado, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia -- compared to previous Fox News/Rasmussen Reports polls.

In Pennsylvania, Obama now leads by eight percentage points, 50% to 42%.

In Virginia, it's Obama 50% and John McCain 47%.

The candidates are within a single point of each other in Colorado (Obama 49%, McCain 48%), Florida (Obama 47%, McCain 47%), and Ohio (McCain 48% Obama 47%).

National polls and other state polling conducted by Rasmussen Reports indicate Obama gained ground before last Friday night's debate, probably as a result of the economic turmoil that has dominated the news. Since the debate, the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll shows little change in the national numbers.

Regardless of the timing and the cause, however, the overriding trend from the past week is a shift in the battleground states that favors Obama.

I seen it on other news stations and looked at Foxs' site and had it too. Just posted the link to theirs so that there wouldnt be any excuses like "Oh thats just what the liberal media says" I dont care for Fox when it comes to politics, just turn it on there sometimes when comedy central doesnt have much on.

I think the college vote could tip the scales in Obama's favor in a tight race.

You are exactly right. Tons of college students are voting this year and there are more young people coming out and having an interest in this election. In my senior year our Gov teacher really got my class and the other govt classes involved. He brought a stack of registration forms and all of us filled them out and everyone in my class and the other were registered. This was during the primaries and most went and voted for there candidate before coming to school. He never told us who to vote for or told us his political stance, just encouraged us to and emphasized how important it was to cast our ballot. At Mecc they had Rock the Vote and really getting students involved. And you mentioned that about Uvaw. Obama has the young vote hands down, main reason because he actually talks to young voters and Mccain focuses on veterans and alot older voters. On Obama's website there are many groups for SWVA and for young voters (really interesting stuff). They set up canvassing which you can do on your own (they give you a list of voters near your house and you can go door to door yourself) And the groups do it also, I am attending 2 this weekend..One meeting at Burton and canvassing houses in Norton Sat. and the other in Castlewood meeting at his office and canvassing those locals. Does Mccain even have anything like this? I dont think so, could be wrong though. One reason why Obama is ahead in the polls and got the word out about him which made him more known and popular with voters around here and elsewhere.

    Re: Who will win Virginia?

That is not anything new R13. All presidential candidates for quite some time do canvassing. I done it in 2000.

    Re: Who will win Virginia?

After retreating from Michigan last week in the face of overwhelming odds, a new poll in the battleground state of Virginia shows John McCain down against Barack Obama by 12 points.

A poll by Suffolk University out Monday gives Obama 51 percent to 39 percent for McCain in Virginia, which has voted Republican in 10 consecutive presidential elections.

"Barack Obama has built a coalition of suburban D.C. area progressives from the north, African-American voters from the south and young voters statewide," said David Paleologos, director of the Political Research Center at Suffolk University in Boston.

"That broad-based support suggests a 44-year Republican run in the Old Dominion State -- dating back to Lyndon Johnson's victory in 1964 -- is in jeopardy."

But Republicans aren't ready to cede the state yet.

"There's only one poll that counts," Virginia GOP Chairman Jeffrey Frederick told FOXNews.com. "Part of my skepticism in polls is just overall, they never seem to tell you what happens on Election Day."

The poll found that the Democratic ticket benefited from Thursday's vice presidential debate between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden. Forty-six percent of likely voters gave the edge to Biden, while 26 percent scored it for Palin and 20 percent said neither won.

Asked if the debate affected their presidential choice, 32 percent said it made them more likely to vote for Obama, while 18 percent favored McCain afterward. But 47 percent said their decision was unaffected by the debate.

"The toxic state of the economy in the final year of the Bush administration is making many Republican candidates radioactive," Paleologos said. "As has been the case in other Suffolk battleground states, the recent Wall Street and economic turmoil has been costly to the Republican party in Virginia."

    But Frederick disagrees.

"This campaign has evolved not about the issues but about tactics; not about the challenges our country faces but who does a better job of campaigning," he said. "If this election were about the issues and not the tactics, McCain would win hands down."

The economy and jobs -- at 52 percent -- topped all other issues as the most important matter for voters. The war in Iraq received 9 percent and health care 8 percent were also listed as chief concerns. Taxes, moral values, terrorism and education all tied with 6 percent.

The poll was conducted Friday through Sunday. The margin of error on the study is 4 percent.

    Re: Who will win Virginia?

If McCain can't win in Virginia or any republican for that matter it's pitiful. All of the western state votes conservative as well as the Newport News area. I'm voting for Obama but bet money several months ago that McCain would win Virginia. Thats one bet I'd gladly lose to see Mr. Obama in the White House.
